A Kingfisher County jury awarded $800,000 in damages to a man who crashed his pickup truck into an unmarked county road washout in 2017.
Kingfisher County Jury Awards $800,000 in Damages to Dakota Low Truck Accident Victim against Kingfisher County.
The jury deliberated for about two hours and 10 minutes before returning a verdict signed by nine of the 12 jurors, finding in favor of the plaintiff, Garrick Steven Yost, and awarding more than twice the amount of damages sought by his attorneys against the county.
(Unlike criminal trials, civil jury verdicts don’t have to be unanimous.)
In their closing arguments, Yost’s attorneys requested jurors assess damages in the range of $100,000-400,000 for pain and suffering, medical expenses, and damage to Yost’s pickup truck.
The jury returned its verdict too late to include in the Sunday print edition of the Kingfisher Times & Free Press. See Wednesday’s paper for the complete story.
